SANY Warranty: How long is it, and what does it cover?
- SANY
- Construction Management
There’s been a lot of commotion about the SANY warranty lately, and we want to be upfront with anyone considering adding SANY to their fleet.
Warranties are complex and sometimes tough to decipher. So we will address the terms of the SANY warranty, how it differs for each machine, the fine print, and what it means for SANY buyers.
If you're here because you've heard that SANY warranties are void on equipment sold at auction, we want to clear the air.
- It's true; a warranty does not cover SANY machines sold at auction. This is because the service history of machines sold at auction can get murky. SANY wants to know that the machine has been cared for during service.
- However, used equipment is covered by a SANY warranty as long as it's sold by an authorized dealer or private party with proper documentation of service.
We'll give much more detail on this, but we wanted to be upfront immediately.
Note: The warranty we’re talking about here only applies to SANY products sold in the United States or Canada. The warranty is void if a covered SANY product enters another country.
The warranty information here only applies to machines owned and operated in the United States and Canada. If you own and operate SANY equipment in another country, you’ll want to refer to that specific warranty information.
This information also doesn’t apply to machines imported to the U.S. by anyone other than SANY America. Those are classified as gray machines.
How long is the SANY warranty?
Unlike most OEMs offering two- or three-year equipment warranties, SANY excavators and wheel loaders have five years or 5,000 operating hours. And three years or 3,000 operating hours for telehandlers, motor graders, and compactors. However, like most warranties, different parts have different coverage, so let’s review all that.
For excavators and wheel loaders
Equipment Type | Coverage Period | Operating Hour Limits | Comments |
---|---|---|---|
Base Construction Equipment | 60 months | 5,000 hours | Covers the machine during the specified period. It does not cover attachments, tools, accessories, or parts not included in the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) installation. |
Engine | 60 months | 5,000 hours | The engine manufacturer covers warrantable defects during the first 24 months or 2,000 hours. Months 25-60, or hours 2,001-5,000, should be claimed with SANY Repairs must be performed by an authorized dealer of the engine manufacturer. |
Attachments (sold by SANY) | 12 months | 1,000 hours* | Covers attachments such as breakers, sweepers, collectors, patch planers, grabs, buckets, and compaction plates. Coverage is provided by the respective manufacturer or supplier. Refer to their specific coverage details for more information. |
Kits for Attachments | 6 months | Unlimited | Covers kits like hammer line kits, windshield protection kits, etc. If installed by the customer, coverage lasts for six months. If installed by an authorized SANY dealer, coverage lasts for 12 months. |
Tool Connection Hoses and Hydraulic Couplings | 3 months | Unlimited | Coverage is provided only if installed by an authorized SANY dealer. No coverage if installed by others. |
SANY parts | 6 months | Unlimited | Coverage lasts for six months from the date of retail sale. Applies when sold independently, not as part of the original OEM installation or a warranty repair. For warranty repairs, the coverage extends for the remainder of the machine's warranty period, subject to limitations. Suppose a new SANY part is replaced within the warranty period. In that case, the warranty for the new part does not exceed the unexpired portion of the original warranty period (refer to the above sections for more details). |
*Refer to the engine manufacturer's applicable warranty statement for coverage details and conditions.

Summary of the warranty:
SANY's got you covered when it comes to defects caused when making the product or the materials used. They'll either repair the faulty parts or replace the whole thing, depending on what they think is best. But you need to let them know about the issue within the warranty period. You can’t file a claim after the warranty period is over.
The warranty specifically covers defects during regular use of the SANY product within the specified coverage. So, if you were doing something crazy like taking your excavator to a demolition derby, sorry, but that won’t be covered. If you’re wondering what “regular use” means, contact your local dealer to find out.
SANY (or its authorized representatives) might also want to inspect the SANY product to assess whether a defect in materials or workmanship exists before starting any covered repair. This is no different than a client complaining about the work you did on their house. You wouldn’t send a crew to fix it without inspecting it first, right?
And if you’re filing a claim, you’ll be responsible for getting the equipment to an authorized SANY dealer for evaluation.
SANY doesn’t offer any additional warranties or assume any further liabilities beyond what’s listed in your warranty paperwork.
Engine Warranty:
During the first 24 months (or 2,000 hours, whichever comes first) from the date of Commissioning, your SANY dealer is committed to helping you. They’ll be available to help you get in touch with authorized dealers of the engine manufacturers to arrange repairs for any failures in the engine assembly covered by the warranty. If any warrantable engine failures happen during this time, SANY will cover them directly.
But like the other machine parts, you’ve got to take care of the engine to maintain the warranty.
Neither the engine manufacturers nor SANY is responsible for failures or damage caused by abuse or neglect. This includes things like:
- Operating the engine without sufficient coolant or lubricants, over-fueling, excessive speeding
- Not properly maintaining the lubrication, cooling, or intake systems
- Improper storage, starting, warm-up, run-in, or shutdown practices
- Making unauthorized modifications to the engine
They're also not responsible for failures caused by incorrect oil or fuel or if there's water, dirt, or other contaminants in the fuel or oil. If you want to claim excessive oil consumption, you'll need to provide adequate documentation showing that it exceeds the standards set by the manufacturer.
Most warranties look like this. Take care of your things, and if something happens beyond regular wear and tear, then contact your authorized dealer. None of this probably comes as a surprise to you.
And remember, this is just a guide to help you navigate the warranty. You’ll always want to refer to your SANY Operator Manual for full details.
What does it cover?
The warranty is specifically for new and unused SANY products. The warranty only applies if the SANY product has been adequately maintained and operated under regular use and service. This means following SANY's specifications and recommendations in your SANY Operator Manual.
What doesn’t it cover?
The warranty doesn’t apply to parts, equipment, and attachments not sold by SANY to an authorized dealer or directly to a customer. It also doesn't cover defects in parts, equipment, attachments, materials, components, or services manufactured or provided by third parties. We’ve kind of covered that before, but it deserves to be repeated.
If a covered SANY product is declared a total loss by SANY or any insurance company, the warranty becomes void after that. Makes sense, right?
Suppose your unmanned wheel loader gets crushed in a freak accident, and your insurance company deems it a total loss and pays out. In that case, you can’t look to the warranty to cover anything on that machine in the future (and you probably won’t be using it in the future, either.)
There are certain situations where the warranty does not apply. These include:
- Damages or defects caused by accidents, fire, frost, floods, natural disasters, abuse, improper adjustment, negligence, chemical reactions, the presence of abrasive materials
- Operating the SANY product beyond its rated capacity
- Improper use or maintenance, using filters, oils, or lubricants that don't meet manufacturer specifications
- Using unauthorized parts or products for maintenance or application, or
- Making alterations to the SANY product
Repairs or parts replaced by anyone other than SANY or authorized by SANY without following the authorized service manuals or instructions aren’t covered. Additionally, repairs or parts replaced with unauthorized parts, accessories, or attachments not authorized by SANY are not covered.
And damage from continued operation after a failure may not be covered by the warranty. So if you noticed something was wrong, didn’t contact your authorized SANY dealer, and continued operating the machine…that’s on you. SANY won’t cover that.
Routine things
Routine maintenance items, preventative leaks, minor adjustments, and wear and tear of covered parts are not covered, as well as regularly replaced items like:
- Clutch and brake linings, air/fuel/oil filters
- Light bulbs
- Window glass
- Lubricants and coolants (unless used during a covered repair)
- Belts
- Cutting blades and tines
- Bucket teeth
- Injector nozzles
- Tires
- Tracks
Certain components, like work attachments, tires, and batteries attached to the SANY product, are sometimes manufactured or warranted by SANY. The original manufacturer or distributor provides any warranty on those parts.
Is the warranty transferable?
If you sell a SANY product that’s still covered by a warranty, contact your authorized SANY dealer or SANY America Inc. within 15 days of the sale date. Provide them with the necessary information, and SANY will verify the remaining warranty coverage.
The remainder of that warranty is transferable to the next owner.
Is the warranty good if I buy a machine at auction?
This is what a lot of commotion has been about lately.
Due to the outlines of the SANY warranty, warranty coverage for machines purchased at auctions or machines obtained from salvage sources is void.
Is the warranty good if I buy a used piece of equipment?
Yes! If you’re buying used equipment from an authorized dealer (like Newman Tractor) they’ll provide you with the remaining warranty details. If they can’t provide you with any warranty info or seem unsure of the warranty available, you may want to steer clear and opt for a different machine or dealer if the warranty is important to you.
What will void my warranty?
Under the following circumstances, the warranty will be void:
- The warranty start date can’t be clearly determined (check your paperwork).
- The SANY dealer or customer doesn’t provide oil samples as specified by the SANY Oil Analysis Program.
- Any name, number plates, or other identification marks in the SANY product have been removed or defaced.
- If any incident involving a SANY product results in personal injury or property damage, the customer or authorized SANY dealer must notify SANY within 48 hours. Additionally, they must allow SANY or its representative's immediate access to the product and all related records within their control.
What can I do to maintain the warranty?
To ensure compliance with the warranty, please adhere to the following guidelines:
- Maintain the SANY product according to the standard maintenance requirements specified in the Operator's & Maintenance Manual.
- When requested by SANY or its authorized dealers, provide proof or evidence that the maintenance requirements have been followed.
- Operate the SANY product safely and use it only for its intended purpose.
- If a defect in materials or workmanship occurs that could cause further damage, stop operating the SANY product and seek necessary repairs.
- Make the SANY product available for applicable services and warranty repairs at a SANY Dealer facility.
- Use only genuine SANY parts or parts of equivalent quality authorized in advance by SANY.
- Ensure that fully trained and qualified personnel carry out services, maintenance, and repairs as authorized by SANY.
- Ensure that only fully trained and qualified personnel operate the SANY product.
- Ensure that your dealer files the warranty commissioning report.
- Complete the applicable commissioning procedure and submit the required documents to SANY.
What to do if you need service:
If you experience a defect on a SANY product, please contact your nearest authorized SANY dealer ASAP. Provide them with the following information:
- Full details of the alleged defect
- Machine identification number
- Number of operating hours on the SANY product
- Warranty start date
- Date and location where the alleged defect became apparent
They’ll help you file the claim and get things started.
Is the SANY warranty worth it?
This is subjective, but in our opinion, yes. It covers the bigger items longer than other major OEMs, and we’ve seen it cover our customers’ equipment well. The process is straightforward.
"Of all the OEMs we deal with, SANY has been the easiest to work with for warranty claims. Between our own parts inventory and their quick response time from technical support and warranty approvals, we average a turnaround time of a few days on most small repair work. There are always exceptions, but it makes it easy for us and the customer."
